Two individuals of Bregmaceros anchovia (Ho et al., 2020) belonging to the family Bregmacerotidae were collected around Jeju-do Island for the first time, in August 2020 and April 2025. This species was identified as Bregmaceros anchovia using morphological and molecular methods. Analysis of the mtDNA COI sequences showed that our specimens clustered closely with B. anchovia, with a genetic distance of 0.4%. Additionally, we first provided the mtDNA 16S sequences of B. anchovia. Morphologically, B. anchovia has an upper jaw projecting beyond the lower jaw, a pointed snout, an elongated first dorsal fin ray, and pelvic fin rays, and melanophores form a single row along the dorsal and ventral sides of the trunk. B. anchovia is distinguishable from B. nectabanus by its pointed snout and the presence of melanophores above the anal fin base. We propose a new Korean name “Song-got-ip-nal-gae-myeol” for B. anchovia.
